8th International Management Control Research Conference

8-10th September, University of Greenwich, London

Delegate information

The Centre for Governance, Risk and Accountability at the University of Greenwich looks forward to welcoming delegates to the conference. The University’s campus is on the site of the Old Royal Naval College on the banks of the River Thames, now designated a World Heritage Site. The University is based in three baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the 17th century. Visitors look out across the river to the modern buildings at Canary Wharf, which together with the institutions based in the City, constitute London's financial centre.

The campus is overlooked by the Royal Observatory at the top of Greenwich Park, with its famous prime meridian line at 0 degrees longitude where visitors can simultaneously straddle the eastern and western hemispheres of the world. The National Maritime Museum is also close by.

The closest station to the conference hotels is Greenwich (on both mainline and Docklands Light Railway, 10 minute walk to campus). The closest station to the University campus is Cutty Sark (Docklands Light Railway). The two stations are about 6 minutes apart on foot.

There is an overground service every 5-7 minutes from the airport on the Docklands Light Railway to Greenwich Station (about 20 min journey). It is not advisable to take a taxi, as the University is on the other side of the river and the river crossings for cars are not close by.

Boat: following the traditional journey taken by kings and queens visiting Greenwich, delegates will arrive at Greenwich Pier adjacent to the University campus. Boats depart from piers at Westminster, Tower Bridge, Embankment/Charing Cross, Waterloo and other places. Timetable and journey planner at: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/greenwich-pier-route-map.pdf

Docklands Light Railway: described as a cross between a mini-railway and a (very slow) rollercoaster, the DLR provides a short and pleasant overground journey through the London docklands area from Bank, Stratford, or London City Airport direct to Greenwich Station (closer to conference hotels) or Cutty Sark Station (closer to the University campus). The two stations are less than 10 minutes apart on foot.

Mainline train: services are every 10 minutes from London Cannon Street and London Bridge to Greenwich Station (8 mins). This station is closest to the conference hotels and a 10 minute walk from the Business School. A map of mainline stations cn be found here (Greenwich Station is in D6): http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/oyster-rail-services-map.pdf.

London Underground: take the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf, then walk 200m to Heron Quays on the Docklands Light Railway. Note: avoid travelling to North Greenwich Station (Jubilee Line) as this is several miles from Greenwich town centre! A map of the London Underground system can be found here. Greenwich is in E7, London City Airport in D9, London Bridge in E6. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf
